I hope that this newsletter finds everyone well and living a good and productive life.

For the last 2 days I have been watching in amazement portions of the sessions of government bodies debating legislation to help rescue the struggling "big three" automakers with tax money from the citizens of the United States.

What is most amazing to me was the arrogance and lack of cooperation from each of the three CEO's.

I felt that there were no positive action plans or terms of accountability that could be found in any of the answers given by any of the company leaders. It was as they felt that this "bailout" was owed to them and their respective companies.

I also felt that they were banking on the plight of the automotive related industry workers to influence the government to bail them out of a situation that their shoddy business practices had highly influenced.

Everyone got the impression that the money would have been a temporary fix and not a cure to a definite problem. It wouldn't be long until the "gimme" hand would be extended again.

You may have an opinion that differs from mine but to me, the bailout for the financial institutions was a big mistake and a bailout of the automotive industry would be an even bigger mistake.

The troubles of both were partly brought on by each trying to overcharge or over extend the consumer.

It seems that there was no attempt made in the past by the auto industry to do things in a better or cost conscious way. Just give in to all union demands without a reasonable objection.

Handle all government requirements in the easy and fastest manner and pass along any additional costs, in total, to the customer.

Concentrate on building the "gas guzzlers" without any concern for gasoline costs that the customer must bear and don't have a clue that this will eventually be the demise of the company's market share.

This is just a few of the reasons that have put the "big three?" into the predicament in which they now find themselves. It's hard for me to feel sorry for them an any way. They have managed to run three companies into the ground. These were so great at one time.

The "survival of the fittest" rationalization should take place and let the auto makers sink or swim on their own. Let each come up with a plan of survival.

Filing bankruptcy protection may be the best option for all involved, especially the American citizen.

Personally, I have owned one American brand vehicle in the last 30 years and this purchase was not one of my best decisions.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 16, 2008 - Vermont Livestock, Slaughter and Processing Co., LLC, a Ferrisburg, Vt., firm, is recalling approximately 2,758 pounds of ground beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

This product is subject to recall: 5-pound approximate weight vacuum packages of "VT BURGER CO GROUND BEEF."
