Necessary craft supplies:
1. Construction paper
2. Glue
3. Pictures from magazines or drawn on construction paper
4. Clear contact paper
5. Black Sharpie marker
Draw a large pumpkin on orange construction paper and cut out.
Make some appropriate size leaves from green construction paper and glue to the top of the pumpkin.
Draw a face on the pumpkin with the Sharpie marker or in the case of a Thanksgiving placemat just mark the pumpkin with normal ridge markings.
Draw 4 small pumpkins and cut out of orange craft paper and make the leaves (smaller) from green paper or marking only as on the larger one, gluing to the tops.
Glue the large pumpkin in the center of a 12"x18" piece of construction or other type of paper with a contrasting color of your choice and the glue a smaller pumpkins close to each of the corners leaving about 1.5" from each outer edge.
Place the 12"x18" paper on a slightly larger piece of clear contact paper.
Starting at one edge, cover the bottom portion with a slightly larger piece of clear contact paper being careful to overlap edges slightly.
Trim the 2 pieces of contact paper to the same size of approximately 12"x18" slightly rounding the corners of the mat being careful not to cut into the corner pumpkins. When cutting the additional place mats, use the first one as a template so that all will be identical and the same size.
This is a very simple project that can be varied in many ways. You can use a cornucopia filled with fruit pictures for a Thanksgiving scene or you could use pictures cut from magazines pasted on a large piece of construction paper or poster board covering with the contact paper.
Turkeys, fruit, pilgrims, etc are just a few of the themes that can be used. Draw or cut out pictures whichever you prefer or are capable of.
