This is an easy craft project that takes a minimum of supplies and is easy to make. This is a good project to get the children involved with. You can use these as greeters or place holders at the dinner table and let the guests take them home as a souvenir or remembrance from the meal.
This is just some basic instructions that can be adapted to many variations of sizes and designs and can be used or displayed in various ways. A few of these I will mention.
Materials needed:
10 crafts sticks or brown, yellow, red, and orange construction craft paper. (crafts sticks can be bought in various colors)
2 wiggle eyes
Scrap of paper (color of your choice)
Felt - white, black, goldenrod, and red (construction paper can be substituted if desired)
Acrylic paint and paintbrush if crafts sticks are not colored.
1 Small craft stick
Sharpie maker of desired color
Scissors
Glue gun or white craft glue
Small paper cups
Small paper saucers
1. Paint your crafts sticks and lay aside to let dry. 4 brown, 2 yellow, 2 red, 1 orange, and one unpainted.
2. Cut a 6" high egg shape from the golden rod felt or construction paper. Fold or cut in half to 3" high.
3. Cut a small elongated triangle from the goldenrod felt or paper an appropriate size for the beak.
4. Cut an elongated heart from the red felt or paper the appropriate size for the turkeys waddle.
5. Design and cut a top hat for the turkey from the clack felt. (cut the small triangle from the black felt and a slightly smaller one from the white)
6. Lay the unpainted craft stick on the table for the base stick.
7. From the right, glue the sticks one on top of the other into a fan shape. (brown, yellow, red, brown, yellow, red, orange, brown)
8. The left over brown stick should be glued straight up in the center to use as the body.
9. Glue the body, red waddle just above the body, the goldenrod beak just above the waddle, and eyes just above the beak.
10. Glue the hat on the top and the buckle on the had using the white and black rectangles.
11. Write "HAPPY THANKSGIVING" and/or name on the small rectangular piece of paper and glue to the small stick. Glue the stick to the body.
