For a variety of scenery, activities, food, and weather you can't beat the beautiful state of North Carolina. From the Great Smoky Mountains in southwestern North Carolina to the coastline on the east there is something to make life more pleasant and relaxing for everyone.
From historian to sportsman, from young to old, the three regions of North Carolina have something to offer them all and the natural beauty of the state is second to non.
Mountain Region:
The Western Region is bordered by the Appalachian mountains with the southwestern part made up of the Great Smoky Mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway makes its way through the North Carolina mountains. The Parkway spans over an distance of 250 miles through the mountain region in the state. The highest point in the mountains is Mount Mitchell which is also the highest peak in Eastern United States. It's highest point is 6,684 feet. There is some snow in the mountains during the winter season so skiing and snowboarding is prevalent in these areas.

Piedmont Region:
The Piedmont is the center region of North Carolina and covers approximately half of the total land area of the state. It descends from the foothills by the by the Mountain Region to the flatter terrain or the Coastal Region. The three largest cities of the entire state make up a portion of this region. It is also home to some of the largest financial institutions. Once the main textile and furniture region of the United States it has given way to technology and other types of industry. There exists many historic sites in this mid section of North Carolina. The weather during all four seasons of the year is normally pleasant and not to drastic.
Coastal Region:
This region of North Carolina is sometimes divided into two sections, the inner coastal sections and the outer coastal sections. This distinction is based mostly on the lay of the land and its relationship to sea level. The outer coastal area is filled with beaches, sand, and islands know as the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This Coastal Region is also filled with history and is home to some of the oldest settlements of the state. There are battle sites and sites of historic lighthouses, The city of Wilmington has been a major United States seaport for sometime. There is also history of the Wright Brothers and their flight at Kitty Hawk. The weather in this region is normally pleasant but the hurricane season can bring some harshness as does the cold winter winds coming in from the sea.
All things considered, North Carolina is a wonderful state and I am proud to call it home.
