Resources required:
Votive Molds
Wax appropriate for container or votive candles
Zinc core wicks, pre waxed and tabbed
Color additive
Scent additive
Double boiler setup (melting pot)
Heat source
Organized work area
(1) Add required amount of water to the bottom container or pot of your double boiler and place on the heating source.
(2) Put the votive wax in the melting pot and place the thermometer into the pot (laboratory thermometer with clip works great). Apply the heat and add additional water if necessary using caution to keep water out of the wax pot.
(3) Heat the wax to desired temperature adding color while heating. Once to the temperature, remove from heat and add scent if desired. Stir the wax to blend the color and fragrance.
(4) Pour the wax into the votive molds approximately 1/8 of an inch from the top.
(5) As wax starts to set up in the bottom of mold, insert the wick with tab centered inside the mold and to the bottom.
(6) When the wax has cooled for about 45 minutes, gently pull the wicks to straighten in the wax.
(7) Once the wax in the votive molds is just slightly warm, reheat the left over wax and refill the molds where the cooling wax has formed a recess in the top.
(8) When the wax has completely cooled in the molds, gently tap the mold on a flat surface and remove the candle. If candle does not readily come out, place in the refrigerator and let cool for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the candle from the mold.
(9) Trim the wick or wicks and let stand for 12 to 24 hours before burning.
